Our House for a Sea-Swimmer project was featured in Plan Magazine, also appearing on the cover of Issue 2, 2023.
The project involves the re-working of a coastal semi-detached house in Clontarf, overlooking Bull Island and Dublin Bay. Designed for a client with a passion for sea-swimming, the house was conceived to take full advantage of its exceptional setting while providing a comfortable and robust home that supports everyday living and social use.
The design approach focused on strengthening the relationship between the house and its coastal context, balancing openness towards views across Dublin Bay with a sense of shelter and retreat appropriate to its exposed location. The project explores how a domestic building can respond carefully to landscape, climate, and patterns of daily life.
In addition to the published feature, we are currently working with our client on further external and landscaping works. These works are being carried out with main contractor First Class Building and Carpentry and landscaper The Constant Gardener.
The project also formed part of the Irish Architecture Foundation’s 2022 Open House Dublin programme and was shortlisted in the House Extension Refurbishment category at the 2023 Building and Architect of the Year Awards.
We are very grateful to Plan Magazine for featuring the project and for including House for a Sea-Swimmer on the cover of the issue.
