Our Lerrig Lodge project was featured in Plan Magazine.
Lerrig Lodge is a period home renovation and extension located adjacent to Malahide Village, Co. Dublin. Dating from 1912, the original house is set within mature private gardens and framed by large trees. The project involved refurbishing and reorganising the existing fabric, supplemented by additional spaces to create a contemporary family home.
New interventions were carefully aligned with the spine wall of the original house. Two concrete ring-beams at differing levels emerge from the rear elevation, folding away from one another to frame distinct areas within the plan. These elements accommodate new family living spaces and ancillary accommodation while reinforcing connections between interior and exterior.
Material continuity was central to the design approach. Accoya timber was used for all glazing elements in both the original and new areas, as well as for cladding the upper-level bedroom volume. Concrete is expressed through floors, benches, and landscaped areas, while pale brick is used internally and externally to allow light and shadow from the surrounding trees to animate the spaces throughout the day.
The project has also been featured in The Sunday Independent and Irish Country Magazine, and was voted Most Liked Extension of 2019 on InspiringMe.ie.
We are very grateful to Plan Magazine for featuring Lerrig Lodge and for the opportunity to share the project with their readers.
