Origami House

Renovation & Extension, Howth, Co. Dublin.

Our clients had spent time in Japan and were heavily influenced by the compact use of space and the quality of light and materials they saw there. They wished to incorporate some of what they saw into their new home in Howth. The result is a 104m2 project which involved refurbishing a stone & brick cottage, re-modelling a pre-existing blockwork extension and folding 2 extensions at different levels and angles into the rising twisting garden to the rear, providing a new dining space and living space which pull away from the boundary and each other at chosen points – to quote Leonard Cohen; “that’s how the light gets in”.
